Itac maintains anti-dumping duties on gypsum plasterboard from Thailand, Indonesia

The International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (Itac) has decided to recommend to Trade, Industry and Competition Minister Parks Tau that the existing anti-dumping duties of 45% on gypsum plasterboard imported from Thailand and 34.6% on gypsum plasterboard imported from Indonesia, excluding that manufactured by PT Siam-Indo Gypsum Industry, be maintained.

This follows a sunset review investigation by Itac of the anti-dumping duties on gypsum plasterboard originating in or imported from Indonesia and Thailand.

This was undertaken owing to an application by Saint-Gobain Construction Products South Africa, being the major domestic producer of the subject product and supported by Etex South Africa Building System.

Gypsum plasterboard is used as a basic input for further processing and installation into fire-rated, moisture-resistant and acoustic wall and ceiling systems for use in the residential, commercial, institutional and industrial construction sectors.

After considering all the information before it, Itac made a final determination that the expiry of the anti-dumping duties on gypsum plasterboard imported from Thailand and Indonesia would likely lead to the recurrence of dumping and material injury to the Southern African Customs Union industry.
